Savannah Guthrie Discusses the Impact of Her Divorce

Savannah Guthrie has recently shared candid details about how her first marriage’s dissolution deeply affected her. The anchor of TODAY revealed these personal insights during a conversation on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast.

Guthrie reflected on her marriage to Mark Orchard, which lasted from 2005 until 2009. Despite not covering this aspect of her life in her book, Mostly What God Does, she openly discussed the emotional toll the divorce took on her during the podcast.

“Discussing my divorce isn’t something I’m comfortable with,” Guthrie expressed. “It was a painful and heart-wrenching experience, and it took me a long time to heal from it. I’m not pointing fingers, but I prefer not to delve into the details.” She mentioned omitting some of the deepest sorrows from her book, stating they were “too personal and too embarrassing” to share publicly.

Guthrie metaphorically described her struggle, saying, “I’m standing here, feeling the scorching heat of the pavement on my feet—but I’d rather not explain why the ground is so hot, or how many blisters are on my feet.” She emphasized her reluctance to recount the painful details, yet acknowledged the curiosity others might have. “I’m willing to share up to a point, but I understand if that might not satisfy everyone.”

Since her divorce, Guthrie has remarried Michael Feldman. Together they have two children, Vale and Charley, aged 10 and 8 respectively. The couple married in 2014.

In response to those who might question the difficulties she faces given her current successful and seemingly ideal life, Guthrie pointed out, “You might look at me and think I have everything—a wonderful marriage, lovely children, and a fulfilling job. What more could I possibly struggle with?” She continued, “I want to acknowledge that I’ve faced challenges, even if I choose not to disclose every aspect of those hardships.”
