Candace Cameron Bure Stands Strong Against Body Shaming

Candace Cameron Bure, the beloved actress from Full House, is not letting negative comments about her body affect her spirit.

Last Saturday, the 49-year-old actress shared on her Instagram Story that she had removed a beach photo from her account, which she had originally posted the previous day. The image featured her enjoying a day at the beach in a one-piece swimsuit.

When asked about the reason for the photo’s removal, Bure mentioned that the negative discourse surrounding her body made the post not worth keeping. “It wasn’t about the swimsuit or my body,” she clarified. “However, the comments shifted focus entirely to my body, which was not my intention.” Thus, she chose to take the photo down.

Alongside a picture of herself in a yellow maxi dress, she expressed her feelings, saying, “I was simply enjoying the last bit of summer at the beach. It was supposed to be fun.”

Addressing Past Body Image Issues

Bure has been candid about her struggles with body image, especially influenced by her early fame. In a conversation on the Pod Meets World podcast, which features Boy Meets World stars Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong, she discussed how public perception affected her self-esteem during her youth.

She recalled feeling like “the chubby-cheeked girl” despite being a normal, average teenager. The reactions of Full House fans often exacerbated her insecurities. “People would comment on how much thinner I looked in person, which made me overly conscious about my appearance,” she shared.

These experiences led to a struggle with bulimia at the age of 18. Bure described the condition as involving both bingeing and purging. “I refer to myself as a bulimic, even now, because those thoughts never completely go away,” she explained. “I continuously use tools and reminders to maintain a healthy mindset and resist old habits.”

Despite her age and success, Bure admits these issues still occasionally preoccupy her thoughts. “It’s frustrating to still think about these things at 49,” she lamented. “It feels ridiculous, but it’s a reality I live with.”
