The father of Travis Kelce, a notable Kansas City Chiefs player, has disclosed how his son proposed to his now-fiancée, the renowned singer Taylor Swift.
Following their engagement announcement on Tuesday, with a playful note on Instagram saying, “your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Ed Kelce shared some exclusive details with ABC News 5 Cleveland.
“He planned a simple evening out, suggesting they first enjoy a glass of wine outside. It was there he proposed to her, creating a truly beautiful moment,” Ed, aged 74, shared.
Ed Kelce elaborated that the proposal happened nearly two weeks prior to the announcement.
“He initially intended to wait until this week to propose, perhaps because she was showing signs of impatience. He wanted to create a grand gesture to make it memorable,” he explained. “I told him it doesn’t matter where you do it—whether it’s on the side of a road or anywhere else—what makes it special is the act of getting down on one knee.”
Soon after the proposal, the couple made FaceTime calls not only to Ed but also to Travis’ mother, Donna Kelce, and Swift’s parents to share the joyful news.
“When I received their FaceTime call, seeing both Travis and Taylor together, I immediately knew the purpose of the call. They happily informed us,” he commented, expressing joy at seeing them together.
The couple, who started their relationship in 2023, posted snapshots of their romantically decorated, flower-filled proposal setting on Instagram Tuesday. They also revealed an 8-carat diamond ring custom-made for Swift, co-designed by Travis with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine.
