The health board has not specified the number of affected procedures in Aberdeen, noting that only planned surgeries will be delayed.
NHS Grampian has been forced to call off a series of operations due to the detection of an unidentified substance on surgical instruments.
The health board is actively trying to determine the nature of the substance found.
The exact number of surgeries cancelled in Aberdeen remains unclear, with the health board confirming that the disruption will only affect elective surgeries.
A representative explained: “Due to issues at the Central Decontamination Unit at Foresterhill, we currently lack a sufficient number of sterile instruments to carry out all planned surgical operations.”
“Our priority is to maintain emergency surgeries, Caesarean sections, and cancer-related procedures,” the spokesperson added.
Unfortunately, this situation has necessitated the postponement of some non-urgent surgeries.
“We extend our apologies to all those affected by these delays,” the spokesperson continued.
“We acknowledge that waiting times for many surgeries are already longer than desirable, and we understand the significant impact this has on the lives of those awaiting treatment,” they concluded.

NHS Grampian assures patients with postponed appointments that their surgeries will be rescheduled as soon as the issue is resolved.
A spokesperson further stated: “A mysterious substance was noted on instruments post-processing. Until we determine the source and thoroughly clean all equipment, the facility at Foresterhill will remain offline.”
“While our facility at Woodend is operational, it cannot handle the full volume of instruments needed. We are coordinating with other health boards for assistance and appreciate the support already offered,” they added.
