A mother, wishing to remain anonymous to safeguard her daughter’s privacy, disclosed several disturbing occurrences at the school.
A mother has stepped forward with claims that her daughter was the target of an ‘attempted strangulation’ at a Scottish primary school.
The mother, who chose to speak under the condition of anonymity to protect her daughter, described a disturbing series of events including alleged strangling, choking, threats with a knife, and other abuses perpetrated by a classmate.
Due to the severity of the attacks, her daughter frequently had to be removed from her P4 class. The mother expressed deep concern for her child, who is anxious about returning to school for the P5 term, according to a report by Edinburgh Live.
“The thought of her being unsafe makes me feel physically ill,” the mother shared. “She’s petrified. She goes to school in fear and comes back home crying.
“Every day, I anxiously wait for a call to hear that she’s been harmed again. It feels like her education is being neglected, and they seem disinterested in addressing my complaints.
“The child responsible needs specialized assistance. It’s not appropriate for him to be in a mainstream educational environment.
“I am constantly told that this child has a right to education. But so does my daughter, and she’s not receiving it. They are letting my daughter down.”
The most recent strangling incident occurred shortly after the girl had suffered a broken collarbone, causing significant pain. Another choking event reportedly happened at the school.
“My daughter was strangled and choked twice,” the mother added. “She was also hit with Lego.
“The boy threatened to go to the canteen and get a knife to use on her. The school’s handling of these issues also makes her a target for this boy.
“Their classroom is frequently evacuated because the boy throws tables and chairs. He has attacked the teacher and destroyed thousands of pounds worth of equipment.
“He also uses offensive language towards my daughter and others. I am so concerned that I am considering contacting the police as neither the council nor the school are taking any action.
“My daughter’s anxiety is overwhelming. We are consulting a GP this week to seek advice on how to handle the situation.
“As an NHS worker, I’ve had to take extended time off work to support my daughter through these ongoing issues.”
Edinburgh Live previously reported similar instances of violence at the same school, where a boy targeted another girl throughout the 2024/25 academic year.

The mother, who we have chosen not to identify to protect her daughter, noted that her nine-year-old is exhibiting symptoms of PTSD and suffering from anxiety and incontinence due to the repeated attacks.
On three separate occasions, her daughter was strangled at school, and twice at the after-school club, prompting the parent to withdraw her child from the program. Photos taken at the time show red marks on the young girl’s neck.
She also voiced concerns about the young boy being found with broken and sharpened cutlery in his school tray at the end of the year.
“There have been three episodes of her being strangled at school and two at the after-school club by the same boy,” she asserted. “After the first incident, we were assured that preventative measures were in place, but it continues to happen.
“On the second occasion, I received a call from the deputy head who informed me that another boy had restrained her while the same boy strangled her. I was then reassured that they would be separated, and I was initially confident that the issue would be resolved as the staff seemed understanding. But then, it happened again.”
A spokesperson for Midlothian council stated, “As is standard advice, families should collaborate with the school. We do not comment on individual cases.”
