Nursery Worker Sentenced to 10 Years: Horrific Abuse of Children as Young as Three Uncovered

By Benjamin Harrison

Thomas Waller, now 18, has been labeled “extremely dangerous” by a victim’s mother.

Thomas Waller, a former daycare worker, has been condemned to 10 years in prison for the rape and sexual abuse of children as young as three. At the time he committed these crimes, he was 17 years old. His trial, which took place at Staines Magistrates Court in July, ended with his conviction on multiple charges including rape, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of taking indecent images.

Now aged 18, Waller, who resides in Farnham, Surrey, carried out his crimes against two young children over a span of two weeks in August 2024.

Having just qualified to work with children, his criminal activities came to light after the parents of one victim reported a serious assault to the nursery staff. The nursery, whose name is withheld to protect the identities of the victims, alerted the authorities leading to Waller’s arrest.

Subsequent investigations revealed indecent images of another child on Waller’s mobile phone, prompting a second investigation.

Today, Waller received a 10-year sentence for rape, to be followed by five years on licence. He also received four years for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one year for possession of indecent images, both to run concurrently with his longer sentence.

In their impact statements, parents conveyed the deep trauma inflicted on their families by Waller’s actions. One set of parents expressed their belief that his crimes were calculated and premeditated, not merely spur-of-the-moment decisions.

They highlighted how Waller consistently refused to admit guilt or show remorse throughout the legal proceedings, denying the families the closure they sought.

Parents of the second victim shared the unbearable pain of realizing what their child endured and the ongoing impact on their family’s sense of security and peace.

Detective Constable Grace Cable, who led the investigation, commended the courage of the victims and their families, noting that their resilience was crucial in securing the conviction of Waller, whom she described as a significant threat to public safety.

DC Cable stressed the importance of parents listening to and protecting their children, assuring that the police are committed to investigating sexual assault thoroughly to bring justice to victims and their families.
