UK resident Viswash Kumar Ramesh, aged 40, narrowly survives a devastating plane crash that claimed the lives of many, while seated in 11A on the flight from Ahmedabad to Gatwick.
In a shocking aviation disaster, a UK citizen was among the survivors of a catastrophic crash involving an Air India Dreamliner, which resulted in numerous fatalities.
Viswash Kumar Ramesh was returning from a family visit in India, seated in 11A on the flight destined for Gatwick, which departed from Ahmedabad on June 12. The British national sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet during the incident.
Ramesh, who has been living in London for two decades, recounted hearing a “loud noise” right before the terrifying crash, as reported by the Mirror.
The 40-year-old described the horrific moments: “It all happened so quickly.” He still possesses his boarding pass from that fateful day. Viswash was traveling with his 45-year-old brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, whom he visited in India for a few days.
Relaying his dreadful experience, he told the Hindustan Times, “When I got up, there were bodies everywhere. I was petrified. I managed to stand and run amidst the debris. Suddenly, someone took hold of me and I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.”
Viswash mentioned his brother was seated elsewhere on the aircraft and expressed his anguish, saying, “We visited Diu. He traveled with me and now I can’t locate him. Please help me find him.”
Authorities reported that the Boeing 787, carrying over 240 individuals, crashed shortly after takeoff. This incident marks the first fatal crash of the Dreamliner since it was introduced in 2009, according to the Aviation Safety Network database.
Earlier in the day, before Viswash’s interview, a police commissioner had announced that there seemed to be no survivors from the crash.
