Angela McTier experienced a severe medical emergency due to a burst varicose vein resulting in substantial blood loss.

A Scottish grandmother met a tragic end at a Spanish airport while returning from a vacation.

Angela McTier, a resident of Blantyre, Lanarkshire, was en route to Alicante airport in a taxi when a varicose vein in her leg burst, leading to considerable bleeding.

The 48-year-old managed to reach the airport but collapsed in the departure lounge. Despite efforts to revive her, McTier succumbed to her condition on July 22.

Her daughter, Michelle Hilston, spoke to STV, expressing how her mother had been making efforts to stay healthy to enjoy more time with her granddaughters. “My mum saw the girls at least twice a week and always looked forward to their visits. It breaks my heart that my daughters have lost such a precious bond,” Hilston said.

“She absolutely loved her vacations; this recent trip to La Mata was by far her favorite. She felt great, enjoyed immensely and was eager to take her grandkids there,” she added.

“Next month, she was supposed to go on another holiday with me and my toddlers,” Hilston mentioned.

Michelle recounted how her mother was a tremendous support in her pursuit of a midwifery degree. She even sent McTier a video of her 11-month-old granddaughter taking her first steps just before her passing.

“Mum was a huge support in me achieving my dream degree. She ensured I had all the necessary childcare and financial support,” Michelle said.

“Vacations were her way of enjoying life, taking multiple trips each year. But above all, she cherished being a grandmother, always eager for updates and pictures of her granddaughters. The last update was the walking video of my youngest, which she adored and shared with everyone. It comforts me that this was the last memory she cherished of the grandkids,” she added.

An FCDO Spokesperson stated, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who passed away in Spain.”
