Lola Daviet, only 12, suffered rape and torture at the hands of Dahbia Benkired before her untimely death.
The heartbroken mother of a 12-year-old girl, who was tragically raped, tortured, and murdered, has spoken out against the perpetrator responsible for her daughter’s death.
In a historic legal decision, Dahbia Benkired, aged 27, received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, marking the first instance in French judicial history where a woman has been sentenced so severely. This sentence was in response to her heinous actions against young Lola Daviet.
The lifeless body of the young girl was discovered in the entrance of her Paris apartment complex in 2022. Before her death, Benkired kidnapped, assaulted, and ultimately slit Lola’s throat using a box cutter and scissors. Lola’s devastated mother called Benkired a “monster” while recounting the tragic events during the trial.
During the trial, Lola’s mother, Delphine Daviet, was exposed to the gruesome images of her daughter’s tortured body and heard the chilling details in the coroner’s report. She provided a poignant testimony, as reported by the Mirror.
Delphine fondly remembered her daughter as a “joyful, loving, and always ready to help others” child with a “strong” spirit. She reflected on how close-knit their family, including Lola’s father and brother Thibault, was, highlighting their attentive nature towards each other.
Delphine recounted the harrowing day that forever altered their lives: “Lola came home to eat, then went back to school. I kissed her, I said ‘see you later’.” That evening, they were supposed to travel to Pas-de-Calais for a weekend at their beach house, but alarm bells rang when Lola failed to return home, as detailed by LeParisien.
Outside her apartment block, Lola was approached by Benkired. In court, Delphine referred to Benkired as “this thing, this monster” without mentioning her by name. She questioned why Lola would follow such a person and lamented her inability to save her daughter, saying, “My heart is forever broken.”
The devastating news of Lola’s death was delivered by the police who found her body concealed in a plastic box in the courtyard of their apartment building in northeastern Paris.
The court learned that Benkired, an Algerian immigrant who had overstayed her student visa, had suffocated Lola to death after taping her mouth shut. This brutal case stirred widespread outrage in France, leading to protests outside the courthouse. The Attorney General of France condemned Benkired for targeting Lola merely “for pleasure and the satisfaction of sexual urges.”
The presiding judge, while announcing the verdict, described Benkired’s crimes as “true torture” and acknowledged the “unspeakable psychological damage” inflicted on the victim and her family under horrific circumstances.
Following the verdict, Delphine expressed her relief, stating, “We believed in justice and we got it.” Lola’s brother emphasized that the trial had honored his sister’s memory and upheld the truth.
