By Emily Anderson

Tony-nominated actress Marcia Rodd has passed away at the age of 87.

Her family announced her death yesterday but did not disclose what caused it.

While Rodd enjoyed a long career on Broadway, many viewers remember her for a memorable two-episode turn on All in the Family as Carol, the daughter of Maude—one of those appearances serving as the pilot for the spin-off series Maude.

She continued to work steadily on television across five decades, guest-starring on shows such as MAS*H, Trapper John, M.D., Night Court, 21 Jump Street, Sisters, Family Law and Grey’s Anatomy. Rodd also appeared in a number of feature films, including the comedy Little Murders opposite Elliott Gould and Jonathan Demme’s Handle with Care.

Rodd’s stage work was a major part of her career. She first arrived on Broadway in 1964 in the musical Oh, What a Lovely War and remained active in theater into the 1990s. In 1973 she earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Maud in the musical Shelter.
