Bradley Cooper breaks silence on cosmetic surgery speculation

By Emily Anderson

Bradley Cooper is publicly responding to speculation that he’s had cosmetic procedures.

The 51-year-old Maestro star spoke up about the rumors during Monday’s installment of the SmartLess podcast, where he appears alongside hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.

On the show, Arnett — who appears in Cooper’s latest film as director, Is This Thing On? — recounted being asked to name something the public doesn’t know about Cooper. He said he was going to point out a persistent bit of gossip. “People keep saying Bradley’s had plastic surgery,” Arnett explained, and he intended to clarify that, in his view, that wasn’t true.

Bateman quickly backed him up, and Arnett emphasized his point: no, Cooper hasn’t gone under the knife. Cooper then spoke directly about how the chatter has affected him, saying that recently strangers have been approaching him with surprised compliments about his looks. He described people remarking on how good he looks, conveying a bemused tone about the whole situation.

Arnett added that such stories can be irritating. He said it’s funny and frustrating how often people claim to “know” what’s true about someone based on tabloids or gossip. Bateman, taking a more playful route, joked that he himself has endured numerous cosmetic interventions — quipping that he’s been “cut to ribbons” — and presented it as all worth it with a laugh.

This conversation marks the first time Cooper has directly addressed the plastic surgery chatter while promoting Is This Thing On?. The film, which Cooper directed, features Arnett and Laura Dern as a couple whose relationship is slowly falling apart.

According to the film’s summary, Alex (Arnett) confronts middle age and the prospect of divorce and looks for new meaning by diving into New York’s comedy world, while Tess (Dern) reckons with the personal compromises she’s made for their family. Together they must figure out how to co-parent, redefine their identities and determine whether their love can evolve into something different.
