Due to a power failure, National Rail advises delaying travel if feasible
This morning, December 30, Eurostar travelers going from the UK to France were met with significant delays due to a malfunction in the overhead power supply within the Channel Tunnel.
Service disruptions have led to either cancellations or extensive delays on routes between London and continental Europe. According to a report by the Mirror, one passenger was stranded for three hours in the tunnel on their way to Belgium.
In a recent statement, National Rail announced: “The overhead power supply in the Channel Tunnel is currently malfunctioning. This is likely to cause severe delays and last-minute cancellations. Please check your travel plans before heading out, as there may be disruptions. We strongly recommend rescheduling your trip to another day.”
On the social platform X, Eurostar communicated: “We strongly urge all travelers to reschedule their trips for another date. We will provide updates on delays as soon as more information is available. We appreciate your understanding.”
On Eurostar’s official website, the 14:31, 15:31, and 20:01 trains from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord are marked as cancelled.
Similarly, trains from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras, including departures at 15:12, 17:12, 20:12, and 21:12, have been cancelled as well.
A notice on the Le Shuttle website states: “We are currently experiencing significant disruptions due to an issue with the overhead power supply; services are delayed. Efforts are underway to rectify the situation. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
