New Insights into the Tragic Passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner
Fresh information has been released regarding the unexpected demise of Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
According to reports from the Costa Rica National Police to ABC News on Monday, Warner, famed for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, tragically lost his life due to drowning near Costa Rica’s coastline on Sunday. He was 54 years old.
Authorities reported that Warner was swept away by a strong current while swimming near Cocles, a beach located in Limon, Costa Rica. He was found later that Sunday afternoon. Following formal identification by the police, asphyxia was officially declared as his cause of death.
It was revealed on Monday afternoon that Warner had been vacationing with his family when he drowned.
Warner gained fame through his role as the son of Bill Cosby’s character, Cliff Huxtable, on The Cosby Show, a part that led to an Emmy nomination in 1986 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
His career continued to flourish after his time on the acclaimed sitcom, which aired from 1984 to 1992. He later starred alongside Eddie Griffin in Malcolm & Eddie from 1996 to 2000, followed by his role as Alex Reed in Reed Between the Lines with Tracee Ellis Ross, which ran from 2011 to 2015.
In 2023, Warner reflected on the enduring influence of The Cosby Show, sharing with Bevy Smith how the series inspired a generation to pursue higher education and foster loving family relationships.
In more recent years, Warner took on roles such as Chuck Cooper in Major Crimes, Julius Rowe in Suits, and AJ Austin in The Resident. His latest appearances were in 9-1-1 and Alert: Missing Persons Unit. Additionally, he co-hosted the podcast Not All Hood.
