A tragic incident occurred at McDiarmid Park where a St Johnstone fan collapsed and subsequently passed away during a home game.

This unfortunate event took place following the team’s game against Ayr in Perth on Saturday, February 28.

Emergency medical teams were present and responded at the scene. The identity and age of the deceased fan have not been disclosed yet.

The team’s head coach, Simo Valakari, and the club confirmed the distressing news via their social media platforms.

The club expressed their deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the bereaved family and acknowledging the efforts of the medical staff present.

A club spokesperson stated, “It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of a loyal fan following today’s match at McDiarmid Park.”

“Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies go out to the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy. We are also immensely grateful to all the medical personnel for their immediate assistance,” the club added.

Condolences and tributes began to flow from various corners of the Scottish football community. One supporter commented, “As a Motherwell fan, it’s heartbreaking to hear the news from Perth today. Attending a game should never end in tragedy. God bless. Great club with great fans.”

Another message read, “Heartbreaking news, my thoughts are with the family and friends, and the club, from a Partick Thistle fan.”

On the field, St Johnstone secured a 3-1 victory over Ayr, putting them ahead in the William Hill Championship standings, now leading by five points over second-placed Partick Thistle. Their closest competitors, Arbroath, are eight points behind after a 0-0 draw in their latest match.
