A 56-year-old British holidaymaker lost his life in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet due to a hotel railing collapse.
In the same tragic event, another tourist, 54 years of age, suffered serious injuries early this morning at the same location in the resort area of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.
The older man was declared deceased at the scene, while the younger individual was urgently taken to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where they are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The distressing incident occurred around 1:30 AM when emergency responders were alerted to a severe accident involving two individuals falling from a significant height within a hotel premises. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard were dispatched to assist at the scene, as reported by the Mirror.
Local investigations have revealed that the faulty railing was situated on an elevated section of the hotel complex.
Following the incident, the Civil Guard has initiated an inquiry to ascertain if there was any negligence involved in the maintenance of the railing or the overall safety measures at the hotel.
Officials from the Foreign Office have been contacted for a statement regarding the incident.
