Belgian Actor Matthias Schoenaerts Faces Jail Time

Matthias Schoenaerts, a Belgian actor slated to play a prominent role in an upcoming DC film, has been sentenced to a stint in prison.

The 47-year-old will soon be seen as a nefarious character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. However, he has recently encountered legal troubles that have led to his incarceration, reported by Belgian news source VRT NWS.

Schoenaerts was found guilty of operating a motorcycle on two separate occasions in April 2024 without a valid driver’s license. This comes after his license was suspended in 2021 following an incident where he was caught driving under the influence of drugs. He was mandated to pass a driving test again but failed to comply.

The actor’s legal issues are recurrent as this marks his 11th conviction. He did not attend his latest court hearing and was consequently sentenced in absentia to six months in prison along with a €4,000 fine. Although sentenced, Schoenaerts has the option to appeal before he is actually imprisoned.

Despite his legal troubles, Schoenaerts is set to appear as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a continuation of DC Studios’ Superman series. He stars alongside Milly Alcock, who portrays Supergirl and is renowned for her performance in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

It should be noted that his recent conviction is separate from an incident in November, where Schoenaerts was arrested after he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test and did not cooperate with the police.
