Celebrity split: longtime married actors quietly end marriage after almost 10 years

By Emily Anderson

Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth quietly ended their relationship last year, according to reports, bringing to a close a partnership that lasted nearly ten years since they first wed.

Following LaBeouf’s recent arrest in New Orleans, several outlets confirmed that the 39-year-old Transformers actor and 32-year-old Goth, who starred in Frankenstein, had separated about a year earlier and kept the split private.

A source speaking to PEOPLE said the couple’s romance had long been fraught with complications. The insider explained that they struggled to get along and that there was significant turmoil during the prior year. According to the source, LaBeouf moved out of the Los Angeles home he shared with Goth and relocated to New Orleans after Goth reportedly urged him to leave.

The source also characterized Goth as independent and focused on her own career and life, noting that while she still cares for LaBeouf, she does not depend on him. Their daughter, the source emphasized, remains her top priority.

Despite the end of their relationship, both parents remain connected to their child. The source told PEOPLE that LaBeouf maintains contact and loves their 3-year-old daughter, Isabel.

Neither Goth nor LaBeouf has made a public statement about their relationship status. The two met in 2012 on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol. II. They held a Las Vegas ceremony in 2016 that was later reported not to have legal effect. The couple announced a split in 2018, but they were seen wearing wedding bands again in 2020. In 2022, they became parents to Isabel.

On Tuesday, LaBeouf was taken into custody in New Orleans outside a bar in the French Quarter after an incident in which he allegedly assaulted two people, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.

Police with the New Orleans Police Department say they were called to the bar at 12:45 a.m. after two men reported being attacked. Investigators allege LaBeouf was creating a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a nearby establishment.

Officers reportedly removed him from the scene, but he is accused of returning and striking one man multiple times after briefly leaving the area. Witnesses say he came back even more aggressive and continued to hit the same individual as others tried to restrain him.

LaBeouf was additionally accused of punching a second man in the face, injuring his nose, and was held by bystanders until officers arrived. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and was subsequently arrested on two counts of simple battery before being released.

LaBeouf has had several prior run-ins with the law. In July of last year, he reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed in 2020 by his former girlfriend FKA Twigs, who had accused him of repeated physical, emotional and psychological abuse.
