Shocking Video: Heartless Vandal Destroys Charity Van in Late-Night Rampage

Hope Chest Community Project faces financial strain after van damage amid rising service demands.

In a startling act of vandalism, a charity’s van was severely damaged by a reckless vandal during the night.

The vehicle, owned by the Hope Chest Community Project, was rendered inoperable after the assailant shattered one of its windows. The incident took place outside the Wellesley Parish Church in Methil, Fife.

Surveillance footage recorded around 1:40 AM on Monday, August 11, shows two individuals near the van, with one clearly seen breaking the driver-side window.

The van is crucial for the charity’s operations, which include delivering furniture and household items to those in need. This year alone, they have received nearly 100 referrals. The damage has caused significant disruptions, leading to appointment cancellations and delays. The charity has incurred extra expenses, including a £450 insurance deductible and the costs for renting a temporary van.

Inside the van, the aftermath was dire with broken glass and plastic strewn all over, severely damaging the vehicle’s interior.

Freda McIntosh, the assistant manager aged 52, expressed her dismay to the Record, highlighting the unexpected financial burden due to the vandalism. “The number of referrals we handle is staggering. Just recently, we had to rent a van urgently to clear out the residence of a deceased person, which was a time-sensitive request,” she explained.

The destruction left the charity’s volunteer team disheartened, especially since it attacked a resource integral to their community service. However, the local community has shown strong support, offering help to lift the spirits of the volunteers and aid the charity in bouncing back.

Additionally, in response to the van being out of commission, the insurance company oddly suggested a Vauxhall Corsa as a replacement vehicle, which was impractical for the charity’s needs.

This is not the first instance of vandalism that the charity has faced. Recently, during the previous Christmas, windows at a new center established at the church to facilitate their activities were also smashed.

Meanwhile, in a separate but similar incident just four weeks prior, another charity based in Glasgow that combats poverty and homelessness had its van vandalized. The attack occurred in the Dennistoun area, where the van’s windows and wing mirrors were smashed, captured on CCTV with a perpetrator using a hammer. This also significantly hindered the charity’s ability to deliver essential services to those in need.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland reported that they are investigating the incident which occurred early on August 11, 2025, on Wellesley Road, Methil. They are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist by contacting the police at 101 with the incident number 1297 of August 11, 2025.
