Investigation Initiated After Reports of Child Being Approached in His Tent at Loch Ness Bay Campsite

An individual has been detained in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a child at a camping area in the Scottish Highlands.

Authorities initiated an investigation after receiving reports that a boy was approached inside his tent at the Loch Ness Bay Campsite between 12:20 AM and 1:00 AM on Thursday, July 31. The young boy, who was visiting the Highlands with his tourist family from Europe, was purportedly assaulted while his parents were asleep in an adjacent tent.

Law enforcement officials have now confirmed the arrest of a 44-year-old man linked to the incident. Specialist officers were brought in to provide assistance to the child and his family, and it was later confirmed that he was traveling with a European group.

During a press briefing, Detective Superintendent Calum Smith expressed that the eight-year-old was deeply traumatized and distressed by the ordeal.
