Earlier today, renowned filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola was admitted to a hospital in Italy, sparking concern among his fans and followers.
This incident occurred shortly after his appearance at the Magna Grecia Film Festival in Italy, where he showcased a director’s cut of his latest film, Megalopolis, which features prominent actors such as Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Giancarlo Esposito, Shia LaBeouf, and Jon Voight.
Reports from Mirror indicate that Coppola had planned a heart-related medical procedure in Italy following the festival. However, complications arose when he suffered a “mild cardiac arrhythmia,” leading to immediate medical attention at a hospital in the Calabria region, prior to the scheduled procedure.
Francis Ford Coppola is celebrated globally for his distinguished career in filmmaking, having written, directed, and produced cinematic masterpieces including The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, The Outsiders, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Recently, Coppola completed a tour across six U.S. cities to promote the director’s cut of Megalopolis. The tour concluded in California with a live Q&A session hosted at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
According to THR, Coppola is currently “resting comfortably” post-procedure. While details are sparse regarding his sudden revisit to Calabria after a trip just last month, it appears that the 86-year-old director is preparing to undertake a new film project. Despite the notorious history of mob violence associated with Calabria, Coppola’s new film will not explore these themes.
Coppola shared with local media, “I am here in Calabria scouting locations for a new project that holds great significance for me… This film will celebrate the magnificent aspects of Calabria.” He emphasized his intention to highlight the region’s beauty rather than its mafia connections, stating, “Calabria is well-known for its mafia, but that is not my focus. My film will spotlight the region’s beauty exclusively.”
