The astonishing prize of £208 million (€250 million) from the EuroMillions lottery was claimed by a winner who purchased their ticket in a store in Co Cork, Ireland. The call for the ticket holder to step forward was recently made, and one individual has now secured the life-changing amount.

This event is notable as the 18th time an Irish citizen has won the EuroMillions jackpot, and it is the largest amount ever won by an individual in Ireland within this lottery. The last significant Irish win in the EuroMillions was in February 2022, where a lucky individual won €30.9 million from a quick pick ticket at a service station in Ballina, Co Tipperary.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were 13, 22, 23, 44, and 49, with the lucky stars being 3 and 5. Cian Murphy, CEO of the Irish National Lottery, previously advised the winner to remain calm, stating that the size of the win could be quite overwhelming.

The EuroMillions jackpot reached its maximum cap of €250 million, equivalent to £208 million, on Friday, June 6, following several rollovers.

The jackpot, capped at €250 million, offered players five opportunities to win this substantial sum, as reported by the Mirror.

While there was a single fortunate winner, other participants are encouraged to check their tickets for possible smaller prizes. The new multimillionaire now finds themselves in a financial position surpassing celebrities such as footballer Harry Kane and singer Dua Lipa, whose net worths are reported at £115 million and £110 million, respectively.

“The EuroMillions jackpot of 250 million euros has been claimed by a winner in Ireland,” announced the Irish lottery operator on the night of the draw. Over 92,000 players across Ireland won prizes in both the main EuroMillions and the additional Plus games in this recent draw.

The €250 million jackpot has turned the dreams of one resident in Munster into reality. Emma Moaghan, a spokesperson for the National Lottery, stated on RTE Radio: “Someone in Ireland this morning has become a quarter of a billion euros richer.”

It remains unclear whether the new multimillionaire will choose to remain anonymous or step into the public eye.

Moaghan confirmed that the winning ticket was purchased in-store rather than online or through a mobile app. She advised the winner: “If possible, try to stay calm, though that might be easier said than done. Have a cup of tea and let it all sink in.”

This monumental win matches the record set by an Austrian player in March, who also won the first-ever €250 million EuroMillions jackpot. With the jackpot currently capped at this amount, this record is expected to remain for some time.

Munster lottery participants are encouraged to double-check their tickets. Cian Murphy, CEO of the Irish National Lottery, expressed enthusiasm about the historic win: “We are absolutely thrilled to see this incredible and record win for an Irish EuroMillions player.”

Lottery players are advised to double-check their tickets and, if they are the lucky winners, to sign the back of their ticket, keep it secure, and contact National Lottery HQ for further guidance on claiming their prize.

The UK’s Millionaire Maker Selection winner for Tuesday night’s draw was confirmed as XPCD66044. This marks a record for a British ticket holder, with one individual winning an astonishing £195.7 million on July 19, 2022, and choosing to remain anonymous.

Given the massive €250 million jackpot prize, accredited financial planner Eoin McGee has advised the winner to proceed cautiously with their newfound wealth.

McGee shared his advice with the Irish Mirror: “My recommendation is to do absolutely nothing initially, except for signing the back of your ticket. Contact the Lotto to confirm your win, but then take a step back and keep it to yourself and those closest to you.”

“Don’t rush into any major decisions. This is a life-altering event. Remember, the things that made you happy before winning will likely be the same things that will bring you happiness after this win.”

McGee added: “Life will indeed change, but if not managed properly, it could also overwhelm you. This €250 million can overwhelm you. Be cautious with your decisions and any promises you make.”

“Even be cautious about revealing to your children how much they will receive. Make no promises. It’s definitely a time for celebration and joy, but in the first six months, try not to spend more than €10,000 on any single item.”
