Shelby Blackstock, the son of Reba McEntire, is grieving the recent death of his half-brother, Brandon Blackstock.
The somber announcement of Brandon’s passing came on August 7, revealing that he succumbed to cancer at the age of 48 after a private three-year struggle with the disease. In response, Shelby, a professional race car driver, shared his sorrow on Instagram with a heartfelt tribute.
“Our family is struggling to express the magnitude of our grief. We lost a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and son yesterday,” Shelby, aged 35, shared on Instagram. His post included several photographs capturing moments with Brandon throughout the years, featuring their father, Narvel Blackstock, and Shelby’s mother, the country music star.
“Brandon was an irreplaceable member of our family. He was humorous, intelligent, and vibrant, and we will profoundly miss him,” Shelby added. “He imparted so much knowledge to me and left behind numerous treasured memories that I will forever hold dear.”
“For all the precious moments we shared, there are many more we won’t be able to create. Yet, I know you’ll still be with us. Whether it’s during hunting, flying, or just everyday life, I’ll sense your presence,” he continued, half-jokingly adding, “And even though it might irritate you, you’ll have to watch me do everything a bit better, more smoothly, and —let’s be honest— looking much more handsome while doing it.”
He concluded his tribute by saying, “We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering, and celebrating your life.”
The Blackstock family’s representative confirmed the news of Brandon’s death on August 7, stating, “With profound sadness, we announce that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. After more than three years of courageously battling cancer, he died peacefully surrounded by family. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and request privacy during this incredibly tough time.”
Brandon’s ex-wife, Kelly Clarkson, had hinted at his health issues a day prior when she postponed her Las Vegas residency. Clarkson and Brandon, a talent manager, married in 2013 and had two children, River and Remy, born in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The couple divorced in 2020, finalizing their separation two years later.
