Earlier today, a large contingent of police officers descended on an industrial facility in Greenock, resulting in the arrest of five men.

Police Scotland was acting on intelligence suggesting the old tobacco warehouse at the intersection of Clarence Street and Hood Street in the town of Inverclyde might be used for growing cannabis.

The operation saw a number of police vehicles arrive at approximately 11:15 am on Thursday, June 5. The individuals detained were 17, 23, 26, 38, and 50 years old. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

At this point, it remains unclear if any cannabis was actually found on the property.

Photographs from the site depict several police vans and cars lined up along the street, and Clarence Street appears to have been temporarily closed, with police vehicles blocking both ends.

Officers in uniform were seen securing the area and engaging with local residents.

RIG Arts, a charity based within the building, has assured the public via social media that their operations were unaffected by today’s events. They stated, “RIG Arts continued to operate normally during today’s incident in the building and we will remain open as usual. Although there is a police presence at the Tobacco Warehouse, it has nothing to do with our studio. We appreciate your concern, but everything is fine with our team and participants.”
