Details of Ozzy Osbourne’s Passing Revealed
Two weeks following the death of iconic Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne at the age of 76, the specifics surrounding his cause of death have been disclosed.
According to a report by The New York Times on Tuesday, the death certificate, which was filed in London by Ozzy’s daughter Aimee Osbourne, states that the musician succumbed to a heart attack. The document specifies that Ozzy Osbourne experienced an “out of hospital cardiac arrest” and “acute myocardial infarction.” It also mentions that coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction were contributing factors to his condition.
Understanding Ozzy’s Medical Condition
The American Heart Association explains that a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is caused by a blockage that stops the flow of blood to the heart. On the other hand, sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart unexpectedly ceases beating. Ozzy had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as early as 2003, though he only made his condition public in 2020.
On the morning of July 22, Ozzy’s family released a statement announcing his death. “With a level of sadness that words can hardly describe, we announce the passing of our beloved Ozzy Osbourne this morning,” the statement said, which included words from his wife Sharon Osbourne and children Kelly, Jack, Louis, and Aimee. They noted he “was with his family and surrounded by love” at his time of passing.
Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Stage Performance
Shortly before his passing, Ozzy appeared on stage for a farewell performance with his fellow Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler in Birmingham, England, his hometown.
Reacting to the news of Ozzy’s death, guitarist Tony Iommi expressed his disbelief on Instagram. “I just can’t believe it! My dear friend Ozzy has passed away only weeks after our show at Villa Park,” he posted. Iommi lamented the irreplaceable loss of Ozzy, remarking, “There won’t ever be another like him.” He added, “Geezer, Bill, and I have lost our brother. My thoughts are with Sharon and all the Osbourne family. Rest in peace Oz.”
Bassist Geezer Butler also paid his respects, saying, “Goodbye dear friend – thanks for all those years – we had some great fun. Four kids from Aston – who’d have thought, eh? So glad we got to do it one last time, back in Aston. Love you.”
Drummer Bill Ward shared his tribute by pondering, “Where will I find you now?” He answered his own question by saying, “In the memories, our unspoken embraces, our missed phone calls, no, you’re forever in my heart.”
