Chloe Hipson tragically lost her life in a road mishap involving two vehicles in Gibstown, Dundalk, County Louth, at 9pm on Saturday.
A substantial sum exceeding £30,000 has been gathered to transport the body of a “beautiful” young woman back to Scotland following her untimely demise in a car accident in Ireland.
Chloe Hipson, 21, from Bellshill, was tragically killed in a collision involving two vehicles in the area of Gibstown in Dundalk, County Louth, at 9pm on Saturday. Alongside her, four others perished in the incident. They were identified as Chloe McGee, 23, Alan McCluskey, 23, Dylan Commins, 23, and Shay Duffy, 21, all hailing from the Republic of Ireland.
A survivor from Ardee is currently receiving medical attention for serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries. Chloe was a second-year student at Dundalk Institute of Technology, where she was pursuing a degree in quantity surveying since moving to Ireland in April.
This past Tuesday, it was reported that a fundraising initiative was launched to facilitate the repatriation of Chloe’s remains to her family. The campaign has since received an overwhelming response, amassing more than double its initial goal.
The fundraising effort was initiated by Bellshill Amateurs FC in Lanarkshire, where Chloe’s brother Ryan plays football. The club recently announced that they have temporarily halted accepting donations after surpassing their financial target.
The club expressed their gratitude, stating, “We have now paused donations on the GoFundMe page. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for your overwhelming support over the recent days. We initiated this fundraiser with the aim of aiding the Hipson family during this profoundly difficult period. Thanks to your generous contributions, we have successfully raised over £30,000.”
“This has been a remarkable demonstration of kindness and unity from all contributors and on behalf of everyone at Bellshill Amateurs, we are immensely thankful,” they added.
The community in Ireland is preparing to come to a standstill as the first of the funerals for the victims is set to take place tomorrow. The Irish victims, Alan McCluskey and Dylan Commins, are scheduled to be laid to rest on Friday, followed by the funerals of Chloe McGee and Shay Duffy on Saturday.
Alan’s burial will take place at Drumconrath Cemetery in Saint Peter and Paul’s Church after a funeral mass at 10am. Dylan’s funeral service is planned for 2pm at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady in Ardee, with a subsequent burial in Old St Mary’s Cemetery.
Chloe’s mother, Toni Hipson, led tributes by updating her Facebook profile picture to an image of her daughter. Her cousin, Elizabeth Elliot, spoke about the profound impact of the loss on the family, stating, “Chloe was a beautiful, intelligent soul who lived life to the fullest. She was dearly loved by many, and her premature departure has left a significant void in our family.”
“She is now with her grandfather Billy Hipson in heaven. We are devastated. Your mother, father, and brothers gave you the best life, and that’s why you were such an angel. We stand with the Hipson family during this incredibly tough time. Goodnight, Chloe. Rest in peace. We are all shattered by your loss. Everyone is profoundly affected,” she concluded.
