Jamie King Leaves Los Angeles Rental Amid Financial Dispute
Following a significant dispute over unpaid rent, actress Jaime King has moved out of her Los Angeles rental home, compounding her recent personal difficulties. The former star of the television show Hart of Dixie was reportedly behind on her rent by $42,580, eventually settling the matter with her landlord, as detailed in court papers reviewed by US Weekly.
The conflict started when the owner of the property, Sheila Irani, initiated a lawsuit in January after King stopped paying her monthly rent of $10,145. The lease agreement, signed in April 2023, was breached by King who, according to the lawsuit, had failed to pay “any money whatsoever” since early 2025.
During the legal battle, Irani cut off King’s access to the house, labeling her stay as “malicious” and branding her an illegal tenant, as reported by US Weekly. King’s lawyers challenged these claims in a revised legal document, pointing to several reasons behind her financial woes.
King’s attempts to secure the overdue rent were hampered by the L.A. wildfires, her attorneys argued. The Nichols Canyon fire, which came dangerously close to the residence, necessitated evacuations that disrupted her life significantly.
Additionally, King’s ongoing custody dispute over her children has heavily impacted her. Earlier this month, her ex-husband Kyle Newman, aged 49, was granted full physical custody of their two sons, James, 11, and Leo, 9. This decision followed King’s alleged failure to complete required rehabilitation and parenting courses, confirmed by US Weekly.
Her legal team highlighted the severe stress and distraction caused by the custody battle, noting that an eviction could severely affect her custody proceedings, something her landlord was purportedly aware of.
King’s financial instability isn’t new. Reports from The Blast suggest that she moved to this rental property after selling her Beverly Hills home for $2 million post her 2022 divorce. A source told the publication that King has faced long-standing financial issues exacerbated by unsuccessful film projects and the exhaustive legal battles over her children, which have drained her financial resources.
The rental dispute was concluded with an agreement that required King to vacate the property by March 22, hand over the keys, and ensure the home was left in a clean state. She also lost her security deposit and agreed to a $1,000 daily fine if she overstayed past the agreed move-out date, as the landlord had already arranged for a new tenant from April 1.
Under the terms of the custody agreement, King is permitted supervised visits with her children three times a week, monitored by approved family members including her mother, sister, brother-in-law, and Newman’s brother. To restore unsupervised visitation rights, she must complete a 6-month rehabilitation program, undergo regular testing, attend a 26-week parenting class, and participate in therapy, as per The Blast.
King has yet to make any public statements regarding these recent events.
