Kathleen Hughes, a notable actress from the 1950s renowned for her memorable scream in the landmark science fiction movie It Came From Outer Space, has passed away at the age of 96.
Her death occurred on Monday, as communicated by her close friend John Jigen Griffin-Atil through a Facebook update.
During Hollywood’s Golden Age, Hughes was a prominent figure, taking on numerous significant roles in both film and television.
One of her standout early performances was in the 1953 film The Glass Web, where she starred alongside Edward G. Robinson and had an on-screen affair with John Forsythe’s character. Her career included starring roles in 14 films produced by 20th Century Fox and five films with Universal. Among these, her role in the sci-fi horror It Came From Outer Space remains especially iconic.

Her television work includes appearances on various well-known shows such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 77 Sunset Strip, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., I Dream of Jeannie, Perry Mason, and M*A*S*H.
Hughes’s personal life was marked by her long-lasting marriage to writer-producer Stanley Rubin, which spanned 59 years until his death in March 2014, when he was also 96 years old.
