Arslan Sajid Convicted in Fatal Vehicle Assault on Amy Rose Wilson, July 2023, Falkirk.
A narcotics trafficker and his associates have been sentenced for the murder of a woman and for placing her boyfriend’s life at risk in a horrific vehicular assault.
Arslan Sajid, aged 24, was driving a Mercedes that rear-ended a car operated by Amy Rose Wilson, 27, on New Carron Road in Falkirk, on July 29, 2023. The Edinburgh High Court jurors were shown CCTV footage capturing Sajid tailing just yards behind the vehicle in which Amy Rose and her partner, Ryan Paterson, aged 23, were traveling.
Earlier that day, Sajid and his accomplices, Andrew Gregoire, 29, and Anthony Davidson, 32, had confronted Amy Rose and Paterson on Foundry Street in the same town. Sajid had accused the couple of stealing five kilograms of cannabis from him.
The trio, all originally from London, tracked the couple from a car park in Cumbernauld to Falkirk.
The court learned that the three men shattered the windows of Amy Rose’s vehicle, threatening her life right before she attempted to escape by speeding away.
Subsequently, Sajid chased down Amy Rose’s car and rammed into it, causing her vehicle to spin out of control and cross into the opposing traffic lane, leading to a fatal collision. Amy Rose was pronounced dead following the accident.
Sajid attempted to flee to Pakistan to avoid arrest for the violent incident. However, on Thursday, the jury found him and his co-defendants guilty of culpable homicide rather than murder.
The group was also found guilty of severely assaulting Paterson, endangering his life.
Moreover, the jury convicted Sajid, his accomplices, and a fourth individual, Steven Hornsby, 55, of conspiring to rob various persons of drugs and money in the days leading up to the fatal incident. Their activities spanned several locations across the UK from July 29, 2023, to August 2, 2023, as part of their efforts to evade capture. This included Sajid’s travel to Pakistan.
The judge, Lady Drummond, remanded them into custody pending sentencing and ordered pre-sentencing reports. The prosecutor, Alan Cameron KC, highlighted that all accused have previous criminal records.
During the trial, Sajid revealed that he and his associates had traveled from Dagenham in Essex with 10 kilograms of cannabis intended for a Glasgow-based dealer. However, a disagreement over the quality of the cannabis led to complications, culminating in the tragic events in Falkirk.
The court also heard from Ryan Paterson, who described the terrifying ordeal during the attack, stating the attackers wore balaclavas and had distinctive accents, suggesting they were from London.
The sentencing for the four men is scheduled for May 1, 2025, at the High Court in Glasgow.
