The newly installed cameras will start operating, taking over from the temporary mobile units previously used at these sites.
Next week, Edinburgh will see the activation of new speed cameras aimed at curbing reckless driving throughout the city.
Two new cameras are set to be operational, replacing the temporary mobile enforcement previously utilized at these sites. Earlier, Police Scotland officers managed safety through the use of camera vans.
Despite previous measures, speed surveys indicated that a significant portion of drivers were still exceeding the 30mph speed limit. Consequently, Police Scotland has decided to trial permanent camera installations at Murrayburn Road and Liberton Gardens.
As highlighted by the Edinburgh Evening News, the area of Liberton Gardens recorded an average of three infractions per hour in times when mobile enforcement was absent. The installation of these permanent cameras is expected to consistently deter speeding and enhance overall road safety.
Michael Grant, Manager of the East Safety Camera Unit, explained: “Despite the use of mobile camera enforcement at both locations, speed surveys showed that 45% of vehicles on Murrayburn Road and 34% on Liberton Gardens were travelling over the 30mph speed limit.
“Additionally, we observed an average of three violations per hour on Liberton Gardens outside the operational hours of mobile units. Since fixed cameras operate 24/7, they will serve as a continual deterrent, help enforce speed limits more effectively, and make these roads safer for everyone,” he added.
