David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown displayed cheerful expressions as they attended the premiere of Stranger Things Season 5 in Los Angeles on Thursday. This appearance followed reports of tension between the actors, who play father and daughter on the popular series.
The pair were seen jovially interacting and sharing a warm embrace on the red carpet. Netflix captured this moment in a video, praising their arrival with the caption, “David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown arrive together for one last Stranger Things premiere.”
The event on Thursday was the first public sighting of Harbour and Brown together since a report on November 1 by The Daily Mail, which alleged that Brown had lodged a complaint against Harbour accusing him of bullying and harassment prior to the commencement of filming for Season 5.
According to the publication’s source, the complaint contained “pages and pages of accusations” directed at Harbour, although none were sexually related. The investigation into these claims reportedly lasted several months. It was also noted that Brown had a representative present on set during the production of the latest season.
As of now, neither Brown nor Harbour has publicly addressed these allegations. Similarly, Netflix representatives have not commented on the situation.
Both actors have previously mentioned that their real-life relationship reflects the complexities of their on-screen roles. In 2018, during PaleyFest, Brown shared with the audience at Refinery29 that their interaction includes a range of emotions, similar to a real father-daughter relationship. “We get angry at each other; we express our feelings on and off set, making those scenes feel very raw and authentic,” she explained.
In a 2021 interview on the That Scene with Dan Patrick podcast, Harbour expressed a deep paternal affection towards Brown, describing his feelings of protection and concern for her, especially regarding her handling of fame. “I’ve always felt a deep fatherly affection for her,” he stated, reflecting on their time together on Stranger Things before Brown became widely famous.
Stranger Things Season 5 is set to premiere with Volume 1 on November 26 on Netflix, followed by Volume 2 on December 25, culminating with the series finale on December 31.
