Kellie Pickler Triumphs in Court Over In-Laws
In a recent legal dispute concerning the estate of her deceased spouse, Kyle Jacobs, Kellie Pickler has emerged victorious against her in-laws.
A Tennessee judge ruled in favor of the former American Idol contestant on Tuesday, reports Us Weekly, effectively dismissing a subpoena from Reed and Sharon Jacobs.
The judicial decree highlighted that the subpoena presented by Reed and Sharon was notably unconventional and filled out incorrectly. The judge further criticized the subpoena’s request for Pickler to produce a detailed list of assets, stating it was somewhat problematic.
“These are not mere documents that can be simply handed over or brought to a specified location for examination,” the judge commented. He pointed out that the subpoena demanded numerous large and potentially heavy personal items. Notably, some of the firearms listed could have been illegal for Pickler to transport, a concern that she had raised.
The court expressed confusion over the intentions behind Reed and Sharon’s subpoena. “It seems they expected either the direct handover of the items or at least a chance to inspect or catalog them,” the court’s order suggested.
Since Reed and Sharon had not initiated any formal complaint or petition against Pickler, the court declared their subpoena invalid and unenforceable in the context of estate administration. However, the judge mentioned that it might be possible for Reed and Sharon to issue the subpoena in a different legal action that Pickler had commenced against them.
Kellie Pickler’s Ongoing Dispute with In-Laws Post-Tragedy
The discord between Pickler and her in-laws began after the tragic suicide of her husband, Kyle, in February 2023. The couple had been married since 2011, and Kyle was known as a talented country music songwriter. Following his death, tensions rose over the distribution of his belongings.
In 2024, Pickler sought the court’s intervention in a disagreement with Reed and Sharon concerning Kyle’s possessions, which included items like a comprehensive gun collection, a Rolex watch, various personal electronics, musical instruments including a 1957 J45 Gibson guitar and a McPherson KOA guitar, and several family memorabilia.
At that time, Pickler expressed concerns that her in-laws might have improperly distributed or even sold some of Kyle’s assets, requesting a detailed report on the handling of his estate.
Responding to Pickler’s claims, Reed and Sharon’s attorney described it as challenging to address what they termed as the latest harsh criticism in Pickler’s legal filings.
They defended Reed and Sharon as grieving parents of a successful and beloved songwriter, stating, “To portray their actions in finalizing his estate as anything but an attempt to respectfully close this painful chapter is incredibly insensitive and lacks compassion.”
