Carnie Wilson is on the mend following her recent hospitalization due to complications from a lap-band removal procedure.
The 57-year-old member of Wilson Phillips updated her fans on Instagram last Thursday, announcing her discharge from the hospital. She had been admitted for issues related to her surgery to remove a lap-band.
A lap-band, also known as a gastric band, is a silicone device wrapped around the stomach to limit its size, which slows down food consumption and helps in reducing overall appetite, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.
Wilson underwent the lap-band surgery in 2012 and experienced a successful removal recently. However, post-surgery complications emerged. “I had significant swelling in my legs that worsened. It led me back to the hospital due to high blood pressure,” she explained. “It was quite frightening, but after adjusting my medications over a few days, the swelling has substantially subsided, almost disappearing,” she added.
Reflecting on the intense nature of her recovery from the surgery, which was initially performed on September 16, Wilson expressed relief at overcoming the challenges, despite experiencing severe swelling and blood pressure spikes.
The artist, still coping with the recent loss of her father, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, disclosed that during the lap-band removal, surgeons discovered an ulcer. “Given the stress I’ve endured this year, it’s not surprising,” she remarked.
