Jenna Bush Hager’s Rebellious Years

Jenna Bush Hager, the familiar face from the Today show, hasn’t always had a squeaky clean image, especially in her younger days. In her early twenties, she had several encounters with the law, marking a phase of youthful rebellion.

Despite being raised by strict parents, Bush Hager admits that she pushed back against the constraints of her upbringing, which eventually led her to reform her ways.

During a segment on the Today show on Monday, August 11, Bush Hager took a moment to reflect on her past troubles with the law. The conversation emerged while discussing a trending TikTok video about strict parenting during the show’s “Morning Boost” segment. “For anyone who thinks they had strict parents, let me tell you about Ashley Hicks,” she began. “Her viral stories on growing up with a Secret Service agent as a father have captivated millions, highlighting the typical teenage adventures she missed out on.”

Bush Hager related to Hicks, sharing how her own life was heavily scrutinized by the Secret Service while her father, President George W. Bush, was in office from 2001 to 2009. She spent her formative years from age 19 to 27 under their vigilant eyes.

“Ashley, I feel you. I couldn’t sneak around much either because I was always accompanied by men with fanny packs hiding more than just snacks,” she joked. Her co-host, Craig Melvin, chimed in, recalling past headlines, “I remember reading quite a few stories about your escapades back then.”

However, Bush Hager highlighted the serious consequences she faced. “I was arrested! There’s a mugshot proving I didn’t escape unscathed,” she retorted. She quickly clarified, “Well, it wasn’t an arrest like you think.”

Indeed, in 2001, Bush Hager faced legal issues twice within a span of two months. She received a misdemeanor for possessing alcohol as a minor in Texas and another for attempting to purchase alcohol with a fake ID. She pleaded no contest to both charges.

She revisited these incidents in a 2023 episode of the show, clarifying the extent of her legal troubles. “I wasn’t actually detained; I was cited for minor in possession of alcohol when I was 20 after trying to buy a margarita with a fake ID at Chuy’s,” she explained.
