Quentin Willson, a renowned television personality, has passed away at the age of 68.
Willson, a prominent British television presenter famed for his roles on Top Gear and Britain’s Worst Driver, died peacefully yesterday following a short battle with lung cancer.
His family released a statement confirming his death, stating he passed away “peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones” and they remembered him as a “national treasure” and a “dedicated advocate for consumers.”
The statement further highlighted, “Quentin made the world of automobiles, from traditional combustion engines to modern electric cars, a staple of our living rooms. The gap left by his departure is irreplaceable. His expertise was not merely acquired but deeply lived; his vast repository of knowledge is now sadly out of our grasp.”
From 1991 to 2001, Willson was a staple on Top Gear, the extremely popular car-focused show, where he worked alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
During his tenure, he was celebrated for his deep knowledge of used cars and his role as the witty provocateur of the show, often making biting comments that delighted viewers.
Upon hearing the news of Willson’s death, Clarkson expressed his sentiments on Twitter/X, noting, “I’m far away so I’ve only just heard that Quentin Willson has died. We had some laughs over the years. Properly funny man.”
Clarkson also posted a photographic tribute to Willson on his Instagram account, with the caption, “And then there were two. Sad day.”
