Legal Woes for Former Reality TV Star
A one-time participant of the Big Brother television series is facing legal consequences after being accused of dodging over $100,000 in taxes.
Memphis Garrett, known for his roles as a contestant finishing runner-up in Big Brother season 10 and securing fifth place in season 22, was detained by authorities from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office at an airport in Florida on May 15.
Public records reveal that Garrett, legally named Robert Garrett, is accused of not remitting more than $100,000 in sales taxes. He faces charges related to the theft of state funds, considered a serious felony offense.
Official reports indicate that between November 2022 and October 2024, Garrett, through his business entity Poke House Lauderdale, which encompasses The Poke House and No Man’s Land Miami LLC, neglected to pay approximately $55,000 in due sales taxes.
This arrest occurs shortly after his highly publicized marital issues. In March 2024, Garrett’s wife, Christmas Abbott, initiated divorce proceedings. The situation escalated into the public eye when Abbott sought a restraining order against Garrett, alleging domestic abuse. However, she retracted her application for the order in May 2024.
As of now, Garrett remains in custody in Broward County, unable to secure release as his $15,000 bond remains unpaid.
