Ant and Dec’s £1M Game Show Win: Jailed Scots Contestant Reveals Darkest Moment

By Benjamin Harrison

Nathan Hageman, aged 46 from Ayrshire, recounts how winning the million led to betrayal from friends and family.

In a shocking revelation, Nathan Hageman, a participant who secured a million pounds on an Ant and Dec TV show, asserted that the substantial win was the beginning of his downfall, propelling him into criminal activities.

Nathan, hailing from Cumnock, Ayrshire, shared that his relationships soured dramatically post his win on the Red or Black? show hosted by the famous duo.

His newfound wealth quickly dissipated as he indulged in extravagant spending, which eventually led him to a life of crime.

He was later found guilty of theft from a healthcare worker and exposed as a fraudster who orchestrated scams at various dining establishments across Scotland.

In a recent discussion with the Record, the 46-year-old expressed his regrets, stating, “Winning that competition was the biggest curse of my life.”

“After the win, the media twisted stories about me, often exaggerating or fabricating details without giving me a chance to share my perspective or discuss the impact these stories had on me,” Hageman lamented.

“Blackmail and threats came from those who knew about my financial status. An ex-partner blackmailed me, and even friends threatened and blackmailed both me and my mother,” he added.

Nathan, who had a history of domestic abuse, was incarcerated in 2006 for five years, before his appearance on the 2011 episode of Red or Black?, where he won the £1 million jackpot.

This fortune could have been a turning point for him, but he reverted to old habits and by 2014, he was behind bars again. This time, he was caught after sending a barrage of threatening messages to a woman over a span of just two days.

Later, in 2024, he was imprisoned for 12 weeks for stealing from a nurse at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, where he was residing at the time.

The nurse was working in the intensive care unit when Nathan stole her handbag from her locker. He then used her car keys to attempt stealing her car, but his scheme was thwarted by the police, leading to his and his accomplice’s imprisonment.

After his release, he moved in with a friend, Jason Gollop, in the East Ayrshire village of Muirkirk. Jason offered him a fresh start by letting him stay at his home and providing him with a job at his plastering company.
