Passing of Will Hutchins, Beloved Actor from ‘Sugarfoot’
Will Hutchins, renowned for his role in the ABC comedy-Western series Sugarfoot during the late 1950s and early 1960s, has passed away at the age of 94.
The show, which premiered in 1957 and concluded in 1961, spanned 69 episodes and is often credited as the pioneering comedy-Western on television.
In Sugarfoot, Hutchins portrayed Tom Brewster, a young man from the East who ventures to the Wild West with aspirations of becoming a lawyer in Oklahoma. His inexperience with ranching tasks led to his nickname, which became the title of the series.
Born in Los Angeles, Hutchins served in the Korean War prior to his acting career. He appeared as a guest star in several television series including Cheyenne, Bronco, and 77 Sunset Strip before landing his leading role in Sugarfoot.
Following the conclusion of Sugarfoot, Hutchins remained active in the television scene, appearing in well-known series such as Gunsmoke, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and Perry Mason.
He also featured in two films with Elvis Presley, Spinout and Clambake, performing a duet with the iconic singer in the latter movie.
Hutchins made his last film appearance in the 2010 romantic comedy, The Romantics.
Surviving him are his wife, Barbara, and his daughter, Jennifer, from his first marriage to Chrissie Burnett, who is the half-sister of famed entertainer Carol Burnett.
