On a 2024 episode of his reality series The Family Stallone, he recounted the experience saying, “I did foolish things. Here I was directing Expendables, and I kept pushing for more takes, ignoring the danger. I distinctly remember the impact from one particular stunt, feeling a sharp pain.” Stallone admitted that his physical condition was permanently altered following the movie.
He revealed undergoing multiple surgeries to mitigate the damage, including having a metal plate and spinal fusion surgery. He cautioned others, emphasizing, “Don’t do your own stunts.”

During the same show, Jennifer Flavin Stallone expressed how frightening it was for them each time Sylvester needed surgery. She noted, “It’s a terrifying ordeal for us each time he enters the operating room because the outcomes are uncertain.”
Scarlet Stallone, their 23-year-old daughter, shared her perspective, noting how difficult it was to watch her father endure repeated surgeries. “Growing up, it was hard to see him constantly in pain.
