They lifted the puppy and scaled the barrier again, holding the puppy as they escaped.
In Glasgow, two children were recently filmed while attempting to remove a puppy from its enclosure.
The event occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 14, at Tundra Retrievers, located in the southern part of the city, leaving the owner, Jordan Masson, in shock after reviewing the unsettling video footage.
Jordan, aged 39, expressed his disbelief, stating, “You assume your pets are secure…”.
The footage, which was later circulated on social media platforms, shows two school-aged children, a girl and a boy, managing to climb over a 1.8-meter-tall fence around 1 pm, landing inside the pen housing several puppies.
After picking up one of the puppies, the children climbed over the fence again, this time with the puppy in their arms. However, their plan was thwarted by a local who saw the attempted theft and insisted they return the young dog.
The puppy was fortunately returned to Jordan without any harm, though the young thieves managed to take only its collar.
Jordan, who is also a gundog trainer, told Glasgow Live that nine puppies from the litter are scheduled to be delivered to their permanent homes this upcoming weekend. He was deeply troubled by the incident, which he described as a real eye-opener.
He reflected on the rapidity of the occurrence, noting, “It just shows you how quick it can happen. I was just inside, only about 20 feet away, with my back turned for a couple of minutes.”
“They’re just children, but they clearly knew what they were doing. It’s frightening,” he added.
Jordan’s retrievers are well-regarded in the community and are often seen training in the nearby Pollok Park. Many locals have expressed their shock and disturbance over the incident, with one commenting on the Tundra Retrievers’ Instagram post, “I can’t actually believe what I’ve just watched! These are school kids stealing a puppy! Just glad the puppy is home safe and well.”
Another person added, “I am in utter shock. I can’t believe this happened. So relieved you got the puppy back safe. If they could steal it like that, god only knows what they would actually do to the wee thing.”
Although the incident has not been officially reported to the police, Jordan hopes to increase awareness among local dog owners.
