“It was the most terrifying moment of my life when I saw Ember gasping for air with a needle lodged in her throat.”
In a distressing incident in Glasgow, a six-month-old kitten named Ember is on the mend after a sewing needle was discovered stuck in the rear of her throat. The owners noticed her coughing and swiftly took her to the Animal Trust Vets in Ibrox for examination.
Tamzin and Cieron, the kitten’s owners, described this ordeal as the most frightening experience of their lives. The veterinary team, including Dr. Gethin Edwards-Jones, registered nurse Yasmin, and care assistant Rachael, promptly identified and removed the foreign object, as reported by Glasgow Live.
The incident occurred when Ember, unknowingly, swallowed the sewing needle which then got stuck in her throat. An X-ray was necessary to accurately locate the needle, after which Ember was sedated allowing the safe removal of the needle by the veterinary team.
Thanks to the prompt actions of the Animal Trust Vets team, Ember was allowed to go home just a few hours later, provided with anti-inflammatory medication to aid her recovery, now comfortably progressing at home.
Owner Tamzin recounted the harrowing experience, “Seeing Ember choking and then discovering the needle in her throat was absolutely the most terrifying moment of my life.”
“We immediately drove her to the Animal Trust while I was in tears, trembling. The staff there were fantastic—they acted swiftly, explained every step, and provided reassurance throughout the ordeal,” she added.
“We’re incredibly thankful that she’s back home and recovering,” she expressed her relief.
Dr. Gethin Edwards-Jones emphasized, “Incidents like what happened with Ember highlight the critical importance of seeking veterinary assistance promptly when your pet shows any signs of distress.
“A sewing needle stuck in the throat can lead to severe complications, but thanks to quick and coordinated teamwork, Ember is now well on her way to full recovery,” he concluded.
