Princes William and Harry Grieve the Loss of Their Cousin
The royal family is in mourning following the death of Rosie Roche, a cousin to Princes William and Harry.
Rosie Roche, the 20-year-old granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle Edmund Roche, passed away in her family residence in Norton, Wiltshire, on July 14. Her relation to Diana places her as a second cousin to both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex.
During a session at the Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court, it was revealed that Roche was discovered by her mother and sister at their home as she was preparing for a holiday with friends. A report by The Times mentioned the presence of a firearm in the vicinity of her passing. Area coroner Grant Davies confirmed that the police have ruled out foul play and suspect no involvement from outside parties.
Details surrounding the case remain limited at this stage. The coroner has initiated an inquiry into the incident, which is postponed until October 25.
At the time of her death, Roche was a freshman at Durham University, where she pursued a degree in English Literature. She was also involved with a local arts and culture magazine during her university tenure.
Professor Wendy Powers, Principal of University College at Durham, expressed deep sorrow over the loss: “The staff and students at University College are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Rosie Roche. As a first-year English Literature student, Rosie integrated well into university life, making many friends and was cherished for her artistic flair, energetic nature, and her passions for literature, poetry, and travel, among other interests. She will be deeply missed. Our hearts go out to Rosie’s family and friends during this tremendously difficult time, and we are providing support to those affected.”
An obituary in the Yorkshire Post described Roche as the beloved daughter of Hugh and Pippa, a wonderful sister to Archie and Agatha, and granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long. The family plans to conduct a private burial service for Roche, with a memorial service scheduled for a future date.
As of now, Princes William and Harry have not made any public statements regarding the passing of their cousin. Her untimely death comes after the loss of British financier Thomas Kingston, who was the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor and ex-boyfriend of Pippa Middleton, in February of the previous year at age 45.
