Ricky Martin’s Wardrobe Blunder Just Before 2025 VMAs: See What Happened!

By Emily Anderson

Ricky Martin showcased his tailoring abilities as he geared up for an unforgettable evening at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Before the awards ceremony, the 53-year-old “Livin’ la Vida Loca” artist took to Instagram to share some moments of him fixing a tear in his pants, which occurred just before the event.

“There was plenty of laughter and friends around, and yes, a little wardrobe mishap too (and yes, I can stitch up my clothes if I need to),” Martin wrote alongside the images that displayed him sewing the tear while still wearing the pants.

“A day filled with makeup, grooming, and wonderful friends!” he added. “It’s bound to be a very special day. Thanks to [Daniela Vesco] for capturing these moments this morning. Don’t forget to tune in to [the VMAs] tonight.”

That evening, during the ceremony held at New York’s UBS Arena, Martin was honored as the first-ever Latin Icon at the VMAs.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude; I’m not sure where to begin,” Martin expressed as he accepted the award from Jessica Simpson. “This is quite straightforward. This one is for all of you… I thrive on your applause, which is why I keep returning. It’s because of you, not just here in the U.S., but worldwide.”

Martin added, “Thank you so much, it’s been 40 years. I started as a young child, and here we are still going strong. We aim to unite nations, break down barriers, and keep music alive.”

The “She Bangs” singer dedicated his award to his four children — twins Matteo and Valentino, 17, daughter Lucia, 6, and son Renn, 5. “Everything I do, I do thinking of you, keeping you in my heart,” he said, addressing his children. He concluded with thanks to his team, saying, “And that’s it! I love you.”

Following the heartfelt speech, Martin performed a medley of his greatest hits, including “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” “Pégate,” “Shake Your Bon-Bon,” “Vente Pa’ Ca,” “María,” and “La Copa de la Vida.”
