Reba McEntire Pays Tribute: Remembering Late Stepson Brandon Blackstock

Reba McEntire recently paid tribute to her late stepson, Brandon Blackstock, on the occasion of his would-be 49th birthday.

At 70, McEntire commemorated the former talent manager with a heartfelt post on Instagram this Tuesday. Blackstock passed away in August after a prolonged fight with cancer.

“Happy birthday Brandon! We love and miss you a bunch,” McEntire expressed on social media, accompanying her message with a photo featuring herself, Blackstock, her stepdaughters Shawna and Chassidy, and her son Shelby—all children of McEntire’s former husband, Narval Blackstock.

Kelly Clarkson, who was married to Brandon from 2013 to 2020 and shares two children with him, River, aged 11, and Remington, aged 9, announced on August 6 that she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency to support their family during this challenging period.

The very next day, Brandon succumbed to a private battle with melanoma. A family spokesperson confirmed his death at that time with the following words: “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Brandon Blackstock. Brandon valiantly fought cancer for over three years. He died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. We appreciate your prayers and thoughts and kindly request privacy for the family during this extremely difficult time.”

Following Brandon’s passing, McEntire took to Instagram to post a touching tribute: “Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock was called home to be with the Lord. His struggles have ended, and he now rests peacefully in the presence of God,” shared the renowned “Fancy” singer, who was married to Brandon’s father from 1989 to 2015.

She added, “There was no one quite like him, and I am grateful for the moments we shared. His spirit and laughter will live on through his family,” concluding her message with, “Rest in peace, cowboy. Happy trails to you until we meet again.”
