Gail Thackray has purchased the esteemed Roman Camp hotel in Callander, planning to launch it as Thackray House by Spring 2026.
A prominent figure in the US adult film industry has recently ventured into the hospitality sector by acquiring a historic hotel in a beloved Scottish tourist destination.
Gail Thackray, who amassed a fortune through her ventures in modeling, acting, and the adult film industry, along with her daughter Sydney, has taken ownership of the Roman Camp hotel, situated in the picturesque town of Callander, Perthshire. Originally hailing from Yorkshire, Gail established a successful career in Los Angeles in various entertainment sectors, later achieving significant financial success through pioneering roles in the phone sex industry and online adult content. Her daughter Sydney, who is also involved in the hotel project, has pursued careers in singing and acting.
The hotel itself boasts a rich history, with connections to British music legends The Beatles and iconic Hollywood director Cecil B. DeMille. Gail expressed her fascination with the hotel, stating, “This is an enchanting location with one of the richest histories I’ve come across. From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the seventeenth-century spirit preserved in the wood panels, antique decorations, and overall ambiance.”
“As a lifelong fan of The Beatles, knowing they once stayed here adds even more value to this place. My aim is to fully preserve its historical essence while providing a unique, high-end boutique experience that genuinely reflects the Scottish culture,” she added.
In a 2019 interview, Gail – who had previously modeled for Tetley’s Bitter and secured a role in Baywatch – reflected on building her £40 million business empire in the adult entertainment industry. However, she emphasized, “I’m not a porn star, and I have never been a porn star.”
