Pete Davidson Reveals Shocking Reason for Quitting TV Show: Find Out Why!

By Emily Anderson

Pete Davidson has recently shared insights into his personal and professional life over the last few years.

In a conversation on The Breakfast Club, the comedian from SNL opened up about his experiences dealing with media scrutiny and his efforts to maintain sobriety. He also touched on the controversies surrounding his show Bupkis, which was discontinued on Peacock after its first season.

Davidson clarified that the decision to stop the show was his own.

“I decided to cancel Bupkis and it caused some issues because I really didn’t want to—I really enjoyed the show, loved working on Bupkis, and had a great time, thanks [to host Charlamagne tha God] for participating,” he explained. “It reached a point where I was exhausted by my career being solely about my personal life, which was quite distressing—not to sound dramatic—but it’s tough living in your own mess constantly.”

Davidson also mentioned that while he was comfortable with the storylines he created, there was pressure from others to move the show in a different direction.

“A new person came in and suggested: ‘I think Pete should be involved with Martha Stewart this season, Pete should have more psychological issues.’ And I was like, ‘That’s not something I’d do,’” he recounted. “They said, ‘Well, Pete the character would.’ And that’s when I realized I couldn’t do it. If I wanted any chance to succeed in serious films or be perceived differently, I couldn’t keep playing myself all the time and be this caricature.”

Davidson stated that although NBC did not “blacklist” him after his decision, the experience was eye-opening, revealing a harsh reality about studio relations. “It’s clear now, but at the time, it showed me that no one really cares about you. Studios and networks, they just want you to perform as expected. I’m okay now, but there was a period when things were quite tense,” he said.

“They were definitely not happy. Have you noticed my absence in any NBCUniversal projects since? It cost people their jobs, and I made sure to compensate the writers’ room and others who were financially impacted, which also was painful,” Davidson continued. “It’s ironic, having been loyal to the company for over a decade—I believe I generated substantial revenue, dedicated myself fully, promoted it well. It’s made me realize a lot about this industry, like, I might actually die if I continue this way, and that’s a serious issue.”
