A New Trustee for Liam Payne’s Wealth

Seven months following his tragic accident from a balcony, the significant wealth of former One Direction member Liam Payne is now under new management.

Cheryl, Payne’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, has been legally named the administrator of his multimillion-dollar estate, as reported by People magazine citing legal documents dated May 1. Payne, who passed away in Argentina last October without a will, had assets estimated at about $38 million gross and $32.2 million net in the United Kingdom, according to the documents.

Temporary Restrictions on Estate Management

Cheryl, aged 41, will handle these financial affairs in conjunction with lawyer Richard Mark Bray. Nevertheless, their management is subject to considerable limitations. According to the BBC, they are not permitted to distribute the assets and have “limited authority” pending the court’s final decision on the disposition of the estate.

In the UK, inheritance laws generally stipulate that the estate of a deceased person who has not left a will should go to their legal spouse or closest blood relative. The BBC adds that if there is no spouse or civil partner, the children typically receive the entire estate.

Cheryl’s Heartfelt Statement

The relationship between Cheryl and Payne lasted around two years, from 2016 to 2018, with their son Bear born in 2017. Although they separated romantically years prior, Cheryl released a moving statement after Payne’s death, describing it as a “heartbreaking event” and highlighted the personal tragedy behind the public persona.

In her statement, Cheryl expressed the profound personal loss, noting, “Liam was more than a pop star and celebrity; he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a beloved friend, and a father to our 8-year-old son,” and emphasized the harsh reality their son faces in never seeing his father again. She pleaded for privacy and respect for Payne’s memory, as reported by People.

Continued Mourning by Loved Ones

At the time of his passing, Payne was in a relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy for about two years. During a March appearance on the UK show Lorraine, Cassidy shared her ongoing grief, explaining, “I’m still trying to accept that he’s gone, so it’s difficult for me to speak of him in the past tense.”

Additionally, Payne’s sister, Ruth Gibbins, commemorated the six-month anniversary of his death with a poignant tribute on Instagram in April, stating, “I can’t come to terms with what has happened and the finality of it all, you know I will never stop doing everything I can for you. I miss you in every way imaginable.”
