Keshia Knight Pulliam is currently grappling with the loss of her “big brother,” her previous co-star from The Cosby Show, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who passed away last week.
The actress, known for her role as Rudy Huxtable on the legendary television series, took to Instagram on Sunday to express her sorrow over Warner’s untimely death by drowning. Warner, who portrayed her on-screen brother Theo Huxtable, tragically lost his life on July 20.
“A week ago I lost my big brother, but I gained an angel…,” wrote the 46-year-old Knight Pulliam in a poignant post on social media. “I love you… I miss you… We got our girls,” she mentioned, alluding to Warner’s wife and daughter.
Accompanying the touching caption, Knight Pulliam posted a video showcasing Warner performing his music, followed by a brief clip featuring two young girls, presumably the daughters of a friend, who were seen walking alongside a horse.
In her Instagram Story, Knight Pulliam added, “Thank you for every text, call, and all of the love you have sent my way… I’ve just needed a moment…”
Warner met his tragic end at age 54 on July 20, after being swept away by a rip current while trying to save his young daughter during a family trip to Costa Rica. According to Elberth León, head of the Tourist Police for Costa Rica’s Atlantic region, both father and daughter were overcome by the current while swimming. “They were bathing together and were caught by a rip current. Obviously, as a father, he fought for his daughter, but the current in that area is very strong, and they couldn’t accomplish the objective,” he explained to Us Weekly.
Following his heartbreaking demise, Warner’s former Cosby Show colleagues have been paying tribute to him, including Raven-Symoné, who joined the sitcom in its sixth season as Olivia.
“Words cannot describe the pain and the sadness and surprise that I feel with the recent loss of MJW,” she expressed on Instagram on Tuesday. “He was the big brother, he was a beacon, he was one of the most multifaceted, talented men. So gentle, and my heart and soul and hugs and kisses go out to his daughter and his wife and his mother.”
She added, “He gave the best advice, he gave the best hugs, and his smile will always be a huge, bright f—ing white smile in my head forever. I love you, and I know you’re watching over all of us now. Bye, Malcolm.”
