Ken Jennings Bids Adieu to His Podcast Role
Ken Jennings has announced his departure from one of his roles as a host.
Fans of Jeopardy! will be pleased to know that Jennings will remain a fixture on the popular quiz show. However, followers of his Omnibus podcast received the disappointing news on Monday that he will be stepping down from his role alongside co-host John Roderick.
Jennings shared on Instagram, “I’m incredibly proud of the eight years spent alongside @johnroderick exploring historical curiosities on OMNIBUS. Due to my increasingly demanding travel schedule, it’s becoming difficult to maintain the podcast. We plan to introduce a series of guest hosts to continue the work.”
Jennings also mentioned, “My final episode as a regular co-host will be a special live event in Seattle on November 8th. Expect music, surprises, and an assortment of goods and cheese! For tickets, visit @townhall_seattle. Hopefully, we’ll meet there if fate allows.”
The Omnibus podcast, which Jennings and Roderick began in December 2017, serves as a digital compendium of bizarre yet true stories, intended as a time capsule for future generations. To date, the podcast has released over 650 episodes covering a wide range of topics from the 2021 salmon chaos to space contraband, and even the ancient Oracle of Delphi.
The news of Jennings’ departure struck a chord with listeners, leading to an outpouring of emotional responses. One listener expressed feeling as if they had been “hit by a mail truck,” while another humorously questioned if Jennings did anything other than the podcast. Another fan lamented the end of an era, playfully suggesting that Jennings’ puns were too much for John Roderick to handle.
Ken Jennings’ Commitments and Insights
Currently residing in Seattle, Washington, Jennings travels to Culver City, California, where Jeopardy! is filmed. Having originally won a record-breaking 74 consecutive games on Jeopardy! two decades ago, Jennings was named as the successor to the late Alex Trebek in early 2021. He co-hosted with Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik until 2023, after which he became the sole host.
Jennings has ushered in a new era for Jeopardy! following Trebek’s passing in 2020. However, he candidly admitted during an episode of the Lovett or Leave It podcast on August 10 that he finds a particular aspect of the show somewhat awkward. “As a kid, I found the Jeopardy! interviews so cringey I had to leave the room. That’s my Jeopardy! origin story,” he revealed.
He continued, explaining the discomfort contestants might feel, “These well-meaning people are pulled away from the game to talk about their pets or vacation, which isn’t really why they’re there. They just want to play the game!” Jennings expressed his commitment to making this part of the show as smooth as possible, promising viewers, “I try to make it the least awkward and get out of there quickly.”
