“Children were playing adjacent to actual pieces of a human arm.”
Several bags containing human remains have been located close to a school for children.
Last Saturday, volunteers from the local community were tidying up a section of Lewisham in South East London when they stumbled upon the gruesome find. Police were immediately alerted and dispatched to Church Grove, SE13, following reports that human remains were discovered in a garden, the Mirror reported.
The local Church Grove project volunteers were constructing a playground when a human jaw reportedly fell out of one of the bags of gravel. The police have indicated that the remains are of “interest” and have extensively searched the location for any additional signs of human body parts.
The Metropolitan Police have disclosed that no one has been arrested in connection with this case yet. The identity of the remains has not been determined, but it is believed that they are “non-recent.”
Residents are deeply disturbed by the discovery, with parents expressing concern for their children’s safety. A local resident described their shock to the Sun, noting the proximity of the incident to their home, particularly alarming given their newborn baby. “It’s so much more immediate, you just never think something like this will happen so close to you. We are extremely shaken, I think the whole community is. Tiny kids were playing right next to literal bits of human arm,” they said.
“I’ve literally just had a baby, it’s absolutely terrifying, we moved here to be safe and now we just don’t know what to do,” the resident added.
A spokesperson from the Met Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing after human remains were uncovered in a garden. “On Saturday, 12 April, police were called at 14:08hrs to Church Grove, SE13 following reports that human remains had been unearthed in a garden. There have been no arrests at this stage and officers are working to establish an identity, although the remains are thought to be non-recent. Enquiries are ongoing and a crime scene remains in place,” they stated.
