Darrin Campbell, aged 39, and Jamie Montgomery, aged 44, have been incarcerated after operating a substantial drug trafficking enterprise. The duo managed the distribution of significant amounts of cocaine and cannabis, generating hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Their criminal empire was dismantled after law enforcement decrypted their secured communications.

Authorities were able to expose their illegal dealings through intercepted communications on the Encrochat platform, which is commonly used by criminals. Campbell and Montgomery have been collectively sentenced to nine years in prison today.

Both individuals, hailing from Glasgow, were apprehended as they attempted to depart for Amsterdam. They confessed to their involvement in serious organized crime on March 31, 2025, at the High Court in Glasgow.

At the same venue today, both Montgomery and Campbell received sentences of four years and six months for their involvement in the sale and supply of controlled substances.

Additionally, both men were subjected to Serious Crime Prevention Orders for three years, effective upon their release.

From March to June 2020, Montgomery and Campbell exchanged messages to coordinate their drug trafficking operations, the court was informed.

The discussions covered a range of topics including the procurement and distribution of controlled substances, cash transactions, and pickups.

Montgomery also shared several images with Campbell showing compressed white powder, believed to be cocaine, alongside messages coordinating drug purchases and sales, making Campbell the primary contact for their “customers”.

Although the drugs were never recovered, conservative estimates placed the street value of the cocaine at approximately £350,000. The cannabis was valued between £27,000 and £60,000 monthly.

The duo was arrested while waiting for their flight to Amsterdam in August 2023 by police acting on intelligence.

Sineidin Corrins, Deputy Procurator Fiscal for Specialist Casework, highlighted the significance of this operation.

“This successful prosecution has not only removed a substantial amount of drugs from our streets but also disrupted the local drug supply network significantly,” Corrins stated. “Thanks to the thorough investigation by the police in collaboration with the COPFS, Jamie Montgomery and Darrin Campbell are now facing consequences for their actions. Drug trafficking devastates lives and communities, and we will continue to work diligently with law enforcement and other agencies to detect and prosecute these crimes effectively,” she added.
